How to put pictures into your page.

So now you know how to make text as expressive as possible. But you want to have more. You want pictures.

Picture tags are made up of many parts. Here's what the entire tag will look like:
<IMG WIDTH="173" HEIGHT="148" src="bjorkb.jpg" ALT="Bjork button!">

The images supported by all graphic-capable browsers are .gif and .jpg. Sometimes you will come across a .art (especially on AOL). .art is not supported by Netscape browsers and therefore if you use them about half of your audience will get broken images. The same is true for .bmp. Another problem with using .bmp (bitmaps) is that they are humongous files. Rarely is a bitmap under a megabtye.

This is what it will look like:
Bjork button!
If you want an image centered on your page, you can surround it with the <center> tags:

<center> <IMG WIDTH="173" HEIGHT="148" src="bjorkb.jpg" ALT="Bjork button!"> </center>

Bjork button!
If you want the image along the right side of your page, you can use the align tags. The same thing works if you want your picture on the left of the page and you want your text wrapped around it.
<IMG align=left WIDTH="173" HEIGHT="148" src="bjorkb.jpg" ALT="Bjork button!">
<IMG align=right WIDTH="173" HEIGHT="148" src="bjorkb.jpg" ALT="Bjork button!">

Becomes:
Bjork button! Bjork button! Note how the text goes between the pictures.

Well, I hear you saying, how do I get HEIGHT and WIDTH measurements, anyway? Well, with most graphics-capable browsers all you have to do is right-click on the image and select "View Image." But if you only have an AOL browser, you'll probably have to use some sort of graphics program.

So, Where do I GET images?

Before we get to that, let's go over a few points. People who give away free graphics on the web don't have to. They do it because they want to. So please don't forget to link back to give them credit. Also, it's always best to download images instead of linking directly to the image. This is because when your graphics are coming from another page, it takes them a long time to show up. And that means that your page won't load as quickly. Another good reason is that pages may shut down, or delete graphics, and then you'll be left with broken images. And a really important one is that it ticks people off, and you don't want to do that.

How to download images: PC users, right click the mouse and select "save image as." Mac users, click and hold your mouse button down on the image, then choose Save this Image As from the pop-up menu that appears.

Please look at people's rules for using images and follow them.

That said, you can download images I've made for use on your pages if you'd like.
